Managing online reviews across dozens—or even hundreds—of locations can feel overwhelming. But every review is an opportunity: a chance to show customers you care, protect your brand reputation, and boost local visibility.

For multi-location businesses and franchises, having standardized yet flexible response templates can save time, ensure consistency, and keep your brand voice intact across every location. Below are five ready-to-use templates you can adapt for your teams.

1. Positive Review Response

When to use: Customer leaves a glowing review with no complaints.

Template:
“Thank you for your kind words, [Name]! We’re thrilled to hear you had a great experience at our [Location] and we’ll be sure to share your feedback with the team. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!”

Why it works: Short, enthusiastic, and personalized—without overcomplicating things.

2. Mixed Review Response

When to use: Customer had a generally good experience but mentions one or two negatives.

Template:
“Thanks so much for your feedback, [Name]. We’re glad you enjoyed [positive mention], and we appreciate your note about [negative mention]. We’ll share your comments with our team so we can improve. We hope to see you again soon!”

Why it works: Acknowledges the positive, addresses the concern, and reinforces care.

3. Negative Review Response (Polite Apology)

When to use: A customer is dissatisfied with their experience, but the issue seems straightforward to resolve.

Template:
“We’re sorry to hear about your experience, [Name]. This isn’t the level of service we aim for, and we’d like to make it right. Please reach out to us at [contact info] so we can learn more and resolve this for you.”

Why it works: Empathetic, professional, and shifts the conversation offline.

4. Negative Review Response (Misunderstanding or Complex Issue)

When to use: Review contains inaccurate details or requires more context.

Template:
“Thank you for your feedback, [Name]. We’re sorry to hear about your concerns. We take reviews like yours seriously and would like to better understand what happened. Please contact us at [contact info] so we can discuss this further.”

Why it works: Corrects the record without sounding defensive, while opening the door to a private resolution.

5. Review with No Comment

When to use: Customer leaves a star rating but no written feedback.

Template:
“Thank you for taking the time to rate your experience with us! We’d love to hear more about what stood out (or how we can improve). Feel free to reach us at [contact info] anytime.”

Why it works: Acknowledges the review while inviting deeper engagement.

Why Reviews Matter in Local SEO

When a customer searches “near me,” the businesses that appear in Google’s coveted local pack aren’t chosen at random. Google looks at three factors: relevance, distance, and prominence. While distance is fixed, prominence is largely determined by signals like links, citations, and—critically—reviews.

In fact, review signals make up about 9% of local pack/finder ranking factors, with high star ratings and a steady flow of reviews improving visibility. This means reviews not only influence whether a customer trusts your business, but also whether they see it in search results in the first place.

The Data on Reviews and Rankings

SOCi’s Top 10 Things You Should Be Doing in Local SEO Now report underscores the impact:

  • Multi-location businesses in the top Google local pack positions average 404 reviews, compared to 281 reviews for positions three through five.
  • Star ratings matter too—the average Google Business Profile rating is 4.1, and maintaining a high score is essential just to stay competitive.
  • Responses matter: for every 25% of reviews a business responds to, conversion improves by 4.1%.

And our 2025 Consumer Behavior Index reinforces the stakes: 91% of consumers use reviews to evaluate local businesses, and 65% are more likely to choose a business that responds to reviews. In other words, reviews drive both visibility and trust.

The Risks of Neglecting Reviews

Ignoring reviews carries two major risks:

  1. Lower Visibility: Without consistent review generation, businesses struggle to compete for prime positions in local search. This means fewer clicks, fewer visits, and fewer conversions.
  2. Lost Trust: Unanswered reviews—especially negative ones—signal neglect. Customers are quick to move on to a competitor that appears more responsive. SOCi’s research shows that 55% of consumers are concerned about fake reviews, making authentic engagement more important than ever.

Case in Point: Localized Store Pages and SEO Wins

Reviews don’t act in isolation. They amplify other local SEO signals when paired with optimized local pages. Consider Dick’s Sporting Goods: by investing in localized store pages filled with unique content, reviews, and accurate listings, the brand dominates local SEO and captures high-intent searches in every market.

This shows the synergy between reviews and broader local SEO. Accurate listings, optimized pages, and a strong flow of authentic reviews together form the foundation for ranking in both the local pack and organic results.

What to Do About It

For multi-location brands, turning reviews into an SEO advantage requires a deliberate strategy:

  • Solicit Reviews Consistently: Don’t leave it to chance. Ask satisfied customers for feedback through email, SMS, and in-store prompts.
  • Prioritize Review Volume and Recency: A steady flow of new reviews signals ongoing relevance to Google and keeps your profiles competitive.
  • Maintain High Ratings: Aim for 4 stars or higher across platforms. Monitor ratings and address recurring issues quickly.
  • Respond to Every Review: Thank happy customers and resolve complaints with empathy. This improves conversions and signals credibility.
  • Integrate Reviews into Local Pages: Showcase reviews on store-specific landing pages, boosting both SEO and customer confidence.
  • Leverage AI at Scale: Tools like SOCi’s Genius Reputation Agent make it possible to respond to reviews rapidly and authentically across thousands of locations.

Conclusion: Reviews as the New SEO Power Signal

Reviews aren’t just about reputation—they’re one of the strongest signals powering local SEO today. High volumes of fresh, positive reviews improve your visibility in the local pack. Responding to them improves conversions and builds trust with customers who are comparing options in real time.

For multi-location enterprises, managing this at scale is complex—but it’s also where competitive advantage lives. SOCi makes it possible with AI-powered tools that unify review management, local listings, and SEO strategy into one platform.

Ignoring reviews means losing visibility and customers. Managing them strategically means growth. The choice is yours.

How One Simple Tactic Drove a 350% Surge in Local Search Visibility for a Fast Casual Brand

When it comes to local SEO, small changes can have outsized effects. A recent case involving a popular fast casual sandwich chain highlights how a simple but strategic update to Google Business Profiles (GBPs) led to a 350% increase in local search impressions—just by optimizing secondary categories.

This example offers a compelling reminder: GBP category strategy matters. A lot.

The Overlooked Power of Secondary Categories

Most businesses know that selecting the right primary category for their GBP is critical—it tells Google what the business is about. But secondary categories, often treated as an afterthought, can significantly influence where and how often a business appears in local search results.

In this case, the brand was already performing well under the primary category “Sandwich Shop.” However, an analysis of their category setup revealed a key opportunity: adding contextually relevant secondary categories that better reflect consumer search behavior.

The recommended additions included:

  • Fast Food Restaurant
  • Lunch Restaurant

These categories fit with how consumers often describe or look for similar dining options, even if the core offering remains the same. Importantly, secondary categories are recognized as a ranking factor by many local SEO experts, and this example reinforces why they deserve more attention.

A Real-World Test: Who Adopted and Who Didn’t

Not all locations made the update at the same time. Some added the “Fast Food Restaurant” secondary category; others kept their existing category setup. This natural split created a valuable real-world comparison of the tactic’s impact.

The Results: 350% YoY Growth in Search Impressions

Over the next four months, the difference between the two groups was striking:

  • Locations that added “Fast Food Restaurant” as a secondary category saw a 350% year-over-year increase in search impressions for that term.
  • Locations that didn’t saw only a 74% increase over the same period.

These numbers suggest that the change in visibility wasn’t coincidental — it was directly tied to the addition of the new category. The locations that made the update were simply showing up more often when consumers searched for fast food options nearby.

Why This Tactic Works

Google’s local search algorithm relies on a blend of signals—relevance, proximity, and prominence among them. By using additional relevant categories, a business increases the number of ways it can be found: it tells Google, “We’re not just a sandwich shop—we’re also a place for lunch, and a fast food option.”

This approach helps your profile rank for a wider array of search queries without changing anything about the business itself. It’s a low-effort, high-impact optimization.

What Local Marketers Should Do Now

For marketers managing local listings—whether for a large chain or a small regional brand—this case shows just how effective category optimization can be. Secondary categories shouldn’t be an afterthought; they’re a crucial part of your local SEO strategy.

Tip: Regularly audit your GBP categories. Look at how consumers are finding you, and test updates that reflect broader or adjacent search intent. Remember that Google regularly adds new categories; if the perfect category isn’t available now, be sure to check back every few months to see if it’s been added.

Small changes can yield big results. As this fast casual brand discovered, being thoughtful about how your business is categorized can be a powerful lever for visibility—and growth.

Still think SEO begins and ends with Google? Think again. This month’s SEO Juice unpacks what’s really happening across social, search, and AI—and why your strategy needs to catch up.

Spoiler alert: Success in local discovery now hinges on how well your brand shows up everywhere.

Industry Updates: Fresh Squeezed Insights

Google’s Core Update

Google rolled out its second Core Update of 2025 on June 30. If you’re following best practices—relevant, well-optimized content, strong local pages, and a good user experience—you’re likely in the clear. But for brands with known SEO gaps, it’s worth monitoring keyword rankings for top queries over the next few months to see if profiles or linked local pages took a hit.

Core updates aren’t out to get you. They reward relevance, trust, and authority. Focus on being helpful, not gaming the system.

What to do: Keep your pages well-optimized and up to date so they stay aligned with Google’s updates.

Google Confirms: Trust & Engagement = Ranking Signals

After years of sidestepping the question, a recent update confirmed what SEOs have long suspected: user behavior and engagement do influence rankings. Visits, clicks, interactions, and reviews all play a role. Google’s “Trust Ranking” model tracks how real people engage with your brand—and rewards those who build credibility.

What to do: Reply to reviews and keep your listings fresh—attention-grabbing local content matters.

Real-Time Content Wins in AI Search

Google’s head of AI, Jeff Dean, recently called out closed LLMs like OpenAI and Anthropic for relying on outdated indexes.

His point: Google’s real-time crawling and data freshness give it a major edge.

What to do: Make sure your content is updated often and stays locally relevant; it’s the key to being competitive in this new landscape.

Content Crossing Platforms
Instagram has started alerting businesses that their public content may soon appear in search engine results.

Meanwhile, TikTok is testing a feature that surfaces Google Maps reviews on some business profiles. If it rolls out widely, your reputation could follow your brand across more platforms than ever.

What to do: Audit your presence across platforms. Make sure your social content, review sites, and listings all tell a consistent story. Treat every channel with equal care—what shows up in one place could surface in another.

Maximize Your Local SEO Strategy with These Updates

What is Search Everywhere Optimization?
Traditional SEO focuses on improving a website’s visibility in organic search results. Local SEO is often framed around Google—but local discovery doesn’t stop there, and Local Search Optimization shouldn’t either.

Search now spans AI tools, maps, social media, photos, video, and even real-world behaviors. Your content needs to work across all of them.

Search Before Search Engines
People have always searched for businesses—long before Google. Back then, it was the phone book or a neighbor’s recommendation.

Local businesses tried to game those systems too, naming themselves “A1 Plumbing” to show up first or relying on word of mouth to build a reputation.

Today’s platforms look different, but the behavior is the same. People still choose what’s visible, trusted, and top of mind. Whether it’s a Google listing, a TikTok, or a local review, the principle holds: show up, stand out, and earn trust.

Beyond the Local Pack: Where Discovery Is Actually Happening

Discovery Through Photos
Google is spotlighting photos in local search—especially in Maps—often surfacing image-based results before traditional listings.

Why it matters: Your business could appear in top results for a keyword even if it’s not directly related—if a customer photo matches the query (think: a mouthwatering pizza shot at a seafood restaurant). This gives unexpected visibility to businesses that might not have ranked through conventional product listings.

What to do:

  • Post high-quality images that align with popular search queries.
  • Use Google Vision AI to verify how your images are interpreted.
  • Encourage real customers to post photos—Google is currently prioritizing user-generated content.

Short Videos in Google Search
Google is now pulling TikToks and Instagram Reels into search results.

Want in? Optimize your video title like a page title tag—make it clear, local, and specific. A title like “Pet-Friendly Apartments in Long Beach” will beat something vague like “Check this out!”

Don’t rely on visuals alone. Use on-screen text and captions to help Google understand the context.

AI-Curated Local Results
Search “restaurants near me,” and Google may auto-suggest things like:

  • Waterfront dining
  • Smoothies with fresh fruit

These AI-driven prompts highlight businesses based on attributes, menus, photos, and content—even if they don’t use those exact keywords.

What to do:

  • Keep your Google attributes up to date.
  • Upload photos that reflect the real experience.
  • Use Google Posts and menu content to highlight your unique selling points.

Nearby Offers & In-Store Products

People are discovering your business through product listings and promotions—not just by name.

Want to appear?

  • Set up Google Merchant Center to showcase your products.
  • Use the correct formats to post events and offers (not just standard posts).
  • Keep your content fresh—Google favors recency.

Caught in the Wild: Fun New Features

We’ve spotted some experimental features that hint at what’s next in local search.

On mobile, Google has started testing AI-generated panels for certain searches—like universities—that surface details such as cost, admissions, and notable alumni.

Why it matters: If similar panels begin appearing for business categories, your Google Business Profile content may be what populates them. Make sure it’s optimized so the right information shows up.

The rules of SEO are changing fast—and they now stretch far beyond traditional search engines. Visibility depends on how your brand shows up everywhere.

Search Everywhere Optimization means treating every digital touchpoint—photos, videos, reviews, social posts, and listings—as part of your SEO strategy. Stay current. Stay consistent. Stay visible wherever people are looking.

In today’s search landscape, everywhere is the new front page.

The path to purchase used to be a funnel. Now it’s a decathlon. Here’s a familiar scenario: An influencer posts a rave-worthy brunch spot. You save it on TikTok. Then Google it. Then Yelp it. Then check if it’s even on Google Maps. Before you know it, you’ve opened five tabs and made zero decisions. Today’s search journey is scattered and your brand needs to show up at every turn.

A diner in Austin, a fitness studio in Chicago, and a bank branch in Miami: What do they all have in common? Nothing from a business offering standpoint. However, they all compete in separate city-level map packs where their corporate reputation lives or dies by the sum of those hyperlocal results. Their online visibility and reputation rely on their ability to respond quickly, effectively, and personally sending strong trust signals in search algorithms, influencing placement in local packs and discovery searches like “best coffee near me”.

Genius Reputation Agent: Like You, But Scaled

  • Trained on your voice. Through research, interviews, brand guide analysis, and example-based learning, Genius Reputation Agent captures the exact wording, tone, and personality that define your brand.
  • Replies you can trust. Suggested responses publish automatically in the approved brand voice while respecting legal requirements and market-specific nuances.
  • Smarter with every feedback loop. Each approval, edit, or rejection teaches and trains Genius Reputation Agent to refine language sentiment matching, and escalation triggers, raising quality over time.

More Stars, More Clicks, More Foot Traffic

When reviews get real-time, on-brand responses, everyone wins. Search algorithms recognize replies as positive engagement signals, and consumers see credibility—boosting trust and driving more clicks in local search results like “happy hour near me.” Fast, thoughtful responses can turn public complaints into public resolutions, converting a near-miss into a saved customer—maybe even a lifelong one. Instead of burying your teams in spreadsheets and reply queues, they can redirect their time toward revenue-driving initiatives. And when you combine that with higher star averages, richer keyword content in replies, and improved review cadence? The payoff goes beyond page-one rankings, extending to real-world foot traffic, because the right replies don’t get just noticed, they drive customers through the door.

Today’s consumers rarely search by brand—they search by need. When shoppers type phrases like “car wash near me” or “Thai food open now,” they’re ready to buy. Unfortunately, many multi-location brands overlook this huge revenue opportunity, focusing instead on broad national campaigns and missing out on the 63% of searches that are unbranded.

National campaigns might boost brand recognition, but optimizing for unbranded search will get you sales. Ready to capture this untapped revenue? Here are three proven ways to increase local sales using unbranded search:

1. Enable Every Relevant Feature (Especially Mobile Ordering)

Completing every available field on your Google Business Profiles, Yelp, and Apple Maps listings, such as hours, contact information, and amenities—that’s table stakes. Enabling features like mobile ordering, reservations, or appointment scheduling—now that’s true optimization.

These features will directly increase conversions. Why? Because they can meet immediate consumer needs at the moment they’re searching. Shoppers prioritize convenience, and if they can order or schedule right then and there, they’re far less likely to end up shopping somewhere else.

2. Add Engaging Photo Content

Visual appeal matters. Businesses with rich, engaging photo content perform significantly better in local searches. High-quality images showcasing products, services, or location atmosphere help customers quickly validate their choices, driving more clicks and visits. Update regularly with photos from customer experiences, behind-the-scenes insights, or featured promotions to enhance authenticity and capture consumer interest.

User generated content is nice, but sometimes it’s not so nice to look at, and adding your own well-composed photos is putting your best foot forward, especially since we know Google and other platforms will feature them prominently.

3. Empower Local Managers to Share About Your Brand on Social Media

National-level social campaigns can boost overall awareness, but local engagement is key to converting searches into sales. Give your local managers the tools and freedom to authentically share updates, promotions, and community interactions on social media. Localized, genuine content improves visibility in search results and resonates deeply with community-driven consumers. A consumer might be aware of your chain, but if they know the location down the street is clean and friendly there’s a better chance they’ll stop by.

By focusing on these three actionable strategies, your brand can effectively compete for high-intent local searches, significantly boosting sales and revenue. It’s time to stop leaving money on the table and start winning with unbranded search.

Ready to Turn Unbranded Search into a Bottom Line Boost?

SOCi’s AI-powered platform helps multi-location brands optimize for unbranded traffic at scale—across search, listings, and local pages. Let us help you get found, get chosen, and grow locally.

ChatGPT Adds Direct Shopping Integration

The News OpenAI has launched an augmented shopping feature within ChatGPT, allowing users to easily purchase products directly through the platform. The new integration displays product information, reviews, and direct links to complete a transaction. Categories include fashion, beauty, home goods, and electronics. The feature became available to all ChatGPT users (Plus, Pro, and Free) as of Monday, April 28.

ChatGPT’s shopping results come from structured metadata provided by third-party retailer websites, according to TechCrunch. Currently, no ad dollars are changing hands, though OpenAI CEO Sam Altman indicated a potential affiliate program in the future.

The recent rumors about ChatGPT integrating with Shopify make sense, given this update. OpenAI has confirmed plans to allow merchants to directly feed product listings directly into ChatGPT, with partnerships in place with major retailers.

ChatGPT interface comparing several espresso machines.

What This Means ChatGPT excels at providing personalized recommendations. Testing this new feature during a conversation about home composting demonstrated ChatGPT’s capability to suggest relevant products effectively.

Given how frustrating the online shopping landscape can be, plagued by inflated marketing claims and fake reviews, ChatGPT’s ability to simplify product discovery could significantly boost its adoption, presenting competition to Google and even Amazon. Marketers should ensure ChatGPT can easily crawl their websites to appear in its shopping results.

Yelp to Launch AI-Powered Call Answering

The News: Yelp announced it will soon test an AI feature enabling businesses to handle phone calls automatically. Integrated directly into Yelp, the AI will answer calls, book appointments, respond to project requests, and handle customer inquiries.

A demo video showcased a customer calling an auto mechanic about an oil leak. The AI asked clarifying questions, categorized the issue as urgent, and collected contact details for follow-up.

Yelp says that businesses can modify how the service works with simple configuration options. The company says it is using “the latest voice AI tech,” without mentioning a provider.

Yelp states businesses can easily configure this feature. While the company mentioned using advanced voice AI technology, it hasn’t disclosed its AI provider.

What It Means The AI call feature will soon be tested by local restaurants and service providers. It’s still unclear if businesses will need Yelp Ads to use the service, as has been common for advanced Yelp features.

How Much Social Engagement Comes from Bots?

The News Eric Schwartzman’s report for Fast Company reveals extensive bot farm activity driving viral engagement on social media. These farms, operated primarily by foreign entities from China, Russia, Iran, and others, involve hundreds of thousands of smartphones controlled centrally to mimic human interactions like liking, sharing, and commenting.

Despite platforms like Meta actively combating “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” these advanced bot farms often escape detection due to their sophisticated methods, enhanced by AI technology.

Political discourse and financial markets are frequent bot farm targets, alongside manipulation of brand and celebrity reputations. Schwartzman cited instances of bots spreading negative stories, such as against actress Blake Lively following harassment allegations against director Justin Baldoni.

What This Means: Consumers should be aware of the ease with which social media engagement can be artificially manipulated. Brands must also proactively safeguard their reputations from potential bot-driven campaigns.

Negative Reviews: Threat or Opportunity?

Every business, no matter how well-run, will occasionally receive negative reviews. What separates successful brands from those that struggle isn’t the absence of criticism —it’s how they respond.

Online reviews can make or break businesses. 87% of consumers read reviews before purchasing, and 81% of consumers would not consider a business that has fewer than three stars (SOCi). If you’re not managing reviews, your competitors are—winning customers you could have converted.

For businesses, negative reviews impact more than just perception. They influence search rankings, visibility, and ultimately, revenue. Handled correctly, they can become an opportunity to build trust, improve SEO, and even turn unhappy customers into loyal advocates—with the right review management platform to scale responses effectively.

This guide explores:

  • The impact of negative reviews on consumer trust and SEO
  • A structured approach to responding effectively
  • Real-world case studies of brands transforming criticism into brand wins

The True Cost of Ignoring Negative Reviews

Online reputation isn’t just about perception. It directly affects lead generation, conversions, and retention.

If you’ve ever searched for a business online, you’ve probably skimmed through Google Reviews before making a decision. Imagine pulling up two businesses:

Business A: 4.7 stars, consistent responses to customer feedback.

Business B: 3.8 stars, negative reviews left unanswered.

Who are you more likely to trust?

How Negative Reviews Affect SEO, Visibility & Customer Trust

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 96% of consumers read online business reviews before choosing a business
  • 42% of customers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations
  • High star ratings lead to a 44% boost in conversions

A single unanswered negative review can leave potential customers with doubts, and unanswered criticism spreads skepticism about your business. But it’s not just consumer trust that’s at stake. Your SEO rankings are affected, too.

How to Respond to Negative Reviews with a Review Management Platform

A well-crafted response does more than defend your reputation—it demonstrates accountability, builds trust, and signals to potential customers that you value feedback.

Step 1: Acknowledge & Empathize

When a customer leaves a negative review, their frustration often comes from feeling unheard. Acknowledging their experience, without getting defensive, is the first step toward diffusing tension.

“Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations and appreciate the opportunity to make it right.”

Why this works:

  • Acknowledges frustration without being combative.
  • Shows responsiveness to potential customers.
  • Prevents escalation by demonstrating empathy.

Step 2: Take the Conversation Offline

Rather than resolving issues in a public forum, move the discussion to a more private setting.

“We’d love to resolve this for you. Please reach out to us at [contact information] so we can address your concerns directly.”

Why this works:

  • Prevents public disputes from spiraling.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Keeps prolonged negativity out of search results.

Step 3: Offer a Genuine Solution

Not every situation calls for compensation, but offering a clear solution helps show commitment to improvement.

“We appreciate your feedback and have addressed this internally. We’d love another chance to provide a better experience. Please reach out so we can make it right.”

Why this works:

  • Turns criticism into an opportunity for brand loyalty.
  • Demonstrates proactive problem-solving.
  • Encourages customers to update reviews and reconsider their experience.

The holiday season is fast approaching, and for retail brands with hundreds of locations, this time of year can make or break your sales targets for the year. The stakes are high — customers are eager to shop, but only from businesses that are easy to find, engage with, and trust. So, the question is, is your brand ready?

Many retail brands are missing out on significant opportunities because they aren’t optimizing their local online presence, managing social media effectively, or engaging with customer reviews. If that sounds familiar, don’t worry, there’s still time to prepare. With just a month left before the holiday rush, you can still get ahead of the game with the right local marketing strategy.

At SOCi, we understand the challenges retail brands face when managing local marketing for hundreds of locations. That’s why we’re here to help you optimize your strategy and drive more foot traffic to your stores this holiday season.

Optimize Your Online Presence to Maximize Local Visibility

One of the first steps to preparing for the holiday rush is making sure your brand is easy to find online. Consumers today rely heavily on local search when making purchasing decisions, especially during the holiday season when time is limited and convenience is key. In fact, 87% of consumers use Google to search for products during the holiday season. But SOCi research shows that multi-location brands aren’t showing up in 3 out of 4 local searches.

If your local stores aren’t appearing in search results, you’re invisible to potential customers who are ready to spend.

Tactics for Improvement:

  • Update and standardize local listings: Make sure your business information, like your name, address, and phone number, is consistent and accurate across all online platforms. Inaccurate listings can lead to customer frustration and missed opportunities, with 47% of consumers saying they’d visit a competitor if they encountered inaccurate information about a brand online.
  • Optimize your local SEO: It’s critical that your stores rank highly in local search results, especially as more consumers turn to “near me” searches during the holidays. Focus on relevant keywords, and ensure your business locations are optimized for Google and other search engines. An important tip: ensure your Google profiles contain both primary and secondary categories representing all key lines of business.
  • Further optimize your Google Business Profiles: Enhance your profiles by adding high-quality photos, social links, links for ordering or booking appointments, and up-to-date business details. Take advantage of the Q&A feature to address common customer questions. Regularly updating your profile keeps your business top-of-mind and boosts your visibility in local searches.

SOCi Solution:

With SOCi’s AI-powered tools, managing your local visibility across hundreds of locations is simple. Build a Locally Focused Social Media Strategy to Engage Shoppers

The Power of Social Media

Social media is more than just a place to share updates—it’s where consumers go for product inspiration, holiday deals, and updates on the brands they love. During the holiday season, having a strong local social media presence can help you attract nearby customers who are looking for holiday shopping ideas.

Tactics for Improvement:

  • Develop consistent, locally relevant content: Tailor your social media posts to reflect the unique interests and needs of your local audiences. Highlight store-specific deals, events, and promotions to engage customers in each location. Locally relevant content is 71X more engaging to consumers than copying the same corporate posts to every location.
  • Use holiday-themed content: Shoppers are on the hunt for deals and gifts during the holidays. Create localized promotions and holiday-themed content that resonates with nearby customers and encourages them to visit your stores. Remember, customers are looking for deals this time of year, but they also appreciate content that helps or entertains, so lean into what makes your brand stand out.
  • Engage with your local audience: Respond to comments, messages, and mentions to foster real-time interaction with your audience. Showing you’re listening and engaging with local shoppers builds loyalty and encourages them to visit your store.

SOCi Solution:

SOCi simplifies local social media management, no matter how many locations you oversee. With SOCi’s Genius Social, layered over SOCi Social, brands can automate local content creation and consumer engagement at each location. It is adept in your brand’s voice, employing data-driven strategies to enhance your social presence while saving time and boosting efficiency.

Manage Your Online Reputation to Build Trust and Drive Foot Traffic

Reviews matter, especially during the holiday season. Shoppers are more likely to visit stores with positive reviews, and they’re quick to steer clear of businesses with unresolved complaints. Our research shows that 94% of consumers use reviews to make local buying decisions. Your brand’s online reputation plays a huge role in driving foot traffic and influencing purchasing decisions, especially for customers who may be finding your brand for the first time while searching for items during the holidays.

Tactics for Improvement:

  • Respond to reviews promptly: Show customers that their feedback matters. Responding to reviews, whether positive or negative, demonstrates that you care about the customer experience. As a retail brand, it’s essential to respond to reviews in a timely manner. The average retail brand takes 4.7 days to respond to a Google review, but consumers expect responses in 24 to 48 hours. Strive to meet that standard.
  • Engage with local audiences: Make sure you’re actively participating in conversations by responding to customer reviews and answering questions. This builds trust with potential customers and encourages them to choose your store over competitors.

SOCi Solution:

SOCi’s review management tools make it easy to monitor and respond to reviews across all your locations from one centralized platform. Genius Reviews combines cutting-edge AI technology, advanced on-brand training models, and leading localization and automation tools to deliver a highly customizable and automated system for managing reviews.   This innovative tool integrates with major review sites, including Google, Facebook, and Yelp. It utilizes proprietary “On-Brand” training models and prompts to provide fast and accurate responses to customer reviews in real-time, making the customer feel valued and heard.

Using the Next 30 Days Wisely: A 4-Week Roadmap

With only a month left until the holiday shopping frenzy begins, time is of the essence. But don’t worry, SOCi has you covered. Here’s a four-week roadmap to help you get your local marketing efforts in shape.

Week 1: Audit and update your local listings
Start by ensuring that all your business information is up to date and consistent across online platforms. This includes your Google Business Profiles, Yelp listings, Facebook pages, and any other popular platforms where your stores are listed.

If this information is already up to date, you can go a step further and add engaging content to these listings. For instance, do you have updated and relevant photos in your Google Business Profiles? What about a Q&A for first time customers?

Week 2: Plan and schedule localized social media content
Create a content calendar that covers all your stores’ holiday promotions and deals. Schedule these posts in advance to make sure your social media presence is active and engaging.

Once the content is launched, keep an eye on the performance of your social campaigns and make adjustments as needed. Double down on posts that engage, and steer clear of the ones that don’t.

Week 3: Focus on review management
Take the time to respond to all outstanding reviews from the past month or two, and set up alerts to monitor new reviews. The goal is to have all reviews addressed before the holiday rush hits, showing potential customers that you value their feedback. As you receive new reviews during the holidays, aim to respond to them in 24 to 48 hours.

If there are commonalities in the feedback your brand receives via online reviews, make adjustments accordingly. Customers value brands who not only respond to feedback, but take that feedback seriously. You’ll be rewarded by more positive reviews in the future.

Week 4: Fine-tune and monitor campaigns
In the final week leading up to the holiday season, review your marketing campaigns and make any necessary adjustments. Monitor your local search rankings, social media engagement, and review responses to ensure you’re in the best possible position for success.

Our 2024 SOCi LVI analyzed 2,791 companies and assessed their local visibility. The research found that strong visibility in local platforms equates to local dollars. SOCi research has shown that brands in the top SOCi LVI rankings grow year-over-year revenue at 2-3X the rate of the average company.

Optimizing your local presence by leveraging the steps above can ensure your brand has a successful holiday season and is well set up for success in 2025 and beyond.
